Entering university, I had planned on majoring in international relations.
I noticed, though, that I was not doing model UN outside of the classroom - but rather hosting my own college radio show and writing for (then eventually running) an online women’s magazine. The desire to understand the world around us - current events, culture and all - drew me to pursue foreign affairs, and while that of course remained the same, I always knew I had a passion for creating and telling stories. I would quite literally draw magazine layouts in notebooks as a child.
So I changed my major to journalism - deciding to tell the stories of current events and culture rather than be at the diplomatic negotiating table.
Upon graduating, I began my career on the fact checking team at The Associated Press. Debunking misinformation for a wire service reinforced the core tenets of good journalism - accuracy over all else. I joined BBC News as a video journalist - pitching, producing, scripting, shooting and editing - making videos not only for digital, but for social media and broadcast, too.
I’ve had to problem solve on the fly - opening gear closets, expecting to find a camera, only to find none - right before a shoot. I have done everything from report from the White House lawn as Donald Trump takes off in Marine One to interview a drag queen in a greenhouse. And as a breaking news writer and reporter I’ve hit the airwaves right after Roe v Wade was overturned and sat in the courtroom as the Trump children testified in Trump’s civil fraud trial.
I have a passion, though, for consuming and creating social and digital content all about culture, food, travel and lifestyle. You can find me documenting my latest meal on TikTok or writing about my latest travel finds.
And I’m always counting down until the next travel adventure (20 countries & way more to go!).
